The Third Eye – Feminist Knowledge and Learning in the Digital Space

In Chhattisgarh, almost 90 percent of tribal communities living in forest areas are under extreme poverty. The project would support the tribal communities of the forest areas, who have sustained their customary way of living with the resources available. Thus, the FRA provides an opportunity to organize the people, consolidate their unity, and strengthen their traditional panchayats.

This proposal is part of the ​“I Am” initiative of Bhasha as part of the Bhasha Dignity Collective that comprises four organisations that were part of the study supported by PHF. Muskaan will lead the Bhasha Dignity Collective in helping build leaders in each of these selected communities.

Muskaan works with marginalized people in the slums of Bhopal. The project aims to redefine education for adults in communities living in slum settlements in urban areas.

Trust for Reaching the Unreached (TRU) strives to improve the health of communities in rural Gujarat through community-based interventions. They run community programmes around general and mental health, offer holistic education for young girls, and deliver relief and rehabilitation in response to natural and human made disasters. This grant supports TRU to deliver the second phase of a community-based mental health programme for communities in Halol, Gujarat.

Tribal Health Initiative works to improve the lives of the tribal communities living in the Sittilingi valley and surrounding hills. They run a range of programmes in health care, community health, farming and craft work. This project supports Tribal Health Initiative to run an internship programme for young doctors with grassroots health and community organisations in rural India.

Building on their work over the past four years, the project will consolidate and stabilize the systems set up. They will strengthen the knowledge and skill base of women community resource person on maternal and child health (MCH), sexual and reproductive health and associated rights and nutrition as they emerge the first point of contact for the community.

Strengthening Community Based Child Protection Mechanisms through CHILDLINE

Jashpur Jan Vikas Sansthan (JJVS) aims to promote sustainable livelihoods by conserving and managing natural resources, working with the local self-governance organisations. This collaboration will develop and implement management plans in the villages, undertake capacity building of the tribal communities and work towards convergence with the various government schemes ensuring integration of approaches.

Over the first phase of this initiative the Bhasha Dignity Collective will address the following – extremely poor education, insecure livelihoods, legal pressures, lack of citizenship documents and discrimination and marginalisation.

Voices – Citizenship and Personhood building with residents of mental health institutions

Suchana Uttor Chandipur Community Society (Suchana) works in the Birbum district in West Bengal. They aim to promote and foster education to build awareness and initiative to tackle local and global issues. They work with parents, teachers, older children and other community members to set priorities, run the organisation and develop its future. This grant supports Suchana to deliver the second phase of a project to strengthen first language literacy in children in the Santal and Kora communities
