Working for us

Our values, benefits, and ways of working.

Our values

Our work is underpinned by a set of values that run through everything we do. We want these values to be felt by everyone who interacts with us – not just those who know us well.

As well as these values, we are also motivated by a shared commitment to being an anti-racist funder. We made this commitment in 2020, and believe it is foundational to our work.

To complement this work, we have a DEI Staff Forum, created by and for staff to explore issues relating to anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion, both in our own organisation and in the work that we do.

Location and hybrid working

Our offices are in King’s Cross, London, and we have an accessibility guide that provides more detailed information on the working environment. We are well-connected by public transport for staff travelling both from within and outside of London.

Our staff take a hybrid working approach to balance the benefits of in-person working 40% of time with the flexibility of remote working. For the majority of full-time staff, this means working in the office two days a week.

We have also kept up one of the traditions of our founder, Paul Hamlyn, and currently provide a discretionary lunch in the office to all of our employees. By doing so, we hope to give everyone a chance to get to know each other better and to encourage staff to take a full lunch break.

Learning and development

We invest in our staff for the long-term. We are a learning organisation and we want all our staff to be committed to their own learning and development, whatever role they do and for the Foundation to offer the right support to enable staff to improve, develop and grow in the time they are employed by us.

Staff have the opportunity to attend conferences and learning events and are encouraged, where it’s appropriate, to go and see the work that we support.

Currently, we also offer an annual personal budget of £1000 so staff can prioritise and resource their own professional development.
