Jane Hamlyn to step down as Chair of Paul Hamlyn Foundation
After 23 years as Chair of Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Jane Hamlyn will be stepping down from her role in December.
We’re delighted to welcome James Lingwood as the new Chair of the Board of Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
James follows in the footsteps of Jane Hamlyn, who has been our Chair since the death of her father Paul Hamlyn in 2001. James has been a trustee since 2003, and chairs the committee of trustees who oversee our Arts Fund.
James is active in the field of contemporary art as a curator, producer and writer. Following a period at London’s ICA, he was, together with Michael Morris, Co-director of the ground-breaking arts organisation Artangel between 1991–2022, commissioning, producing and presenting over 150 ambitious projects by artists, composers, filmmakers and writers, both in the UK and around the world.
Alongside his work for Artangel, James has curated numerous exhibitions for museums around the world, including the Tate, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Jeu de Paume in Paris and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul.
James said:
Paul Hamlyn lived an extraordinary life. A refugee from Nazi Germany, he was a visionary publisher and philanthropist. It’s a great honour to become Chair of the charity he set up, and to work with the exceptional team and trustees of Paul Hamlyn Foundation to build on his inspiring legacy.
On the appointment of our new Chair, our Chief Executive, Halima Khan, said:
We are delighted to welcome James as our new Chair, who brings deep knowledge and understanding of the Foundation. We very much look forward to his continued support and guidance as we shape the work of Paul Hamlyn Foundation now and into the future.
After 23 years as Chair of Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Jane Hamlyn will be stepping down from her role in December.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Forster to our board of trustees.
