Shoubhik Bandopadhyay appointed as Head of Programme – Arts

Published: 10 August 2022
We are pleased to announce that Shoubhik Bandopadhyay will join PHF as Head of Programme – Arts from November.

With insight gathered from his own practice as a professional musician and expertise from roles at the Barbican, Nesta and most recently as Head of Strategic Insight at the National Archives, he will bring the skills to assess how well arts and cultural organisations understand the specific barriers to access in their field, what value they will create for participants and how sustainable their impact might be. All of these are critical to Paul Hamlyn Foundation achieving our ambitions to address inequalities of opportunity and change how the arts are created, presented, accessed and experienced.

Shoubhik has learned and lived experience of the systems and issues in the arts sector where we want to see change. He impressed us with his ability to see the big picture and with his thinking about how we might use our resources to support meaningful transformation. That mix of skills and expertise will be of real value to our work as a grant-maker.”

Speaking about his new role, Shoubhik said:“I’m excited and humbled to join Paul Hamlyn Foundation and to help to embed their commitment to social justice and anti-racism into their arts programme. Artists, arts workers and audiences have demonstrated their desire for this change, and we need to engage our imaginations and our grant-making skills to identify and support the organisations which can have the most impact. It is an exciting challenge – we have lots of work to do, lots to learn and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
