Remembering David Price
All at Paul Hamlyn Foundation were sad to hear the news of the death of David Price OBE, who founded Musical Futures and acted as a senior adviser to our work.
As a senior adviser to Paul Hamlyn Foundation and founder of Musical Futures, he played an important part in our history as a grant maker, bringing to us his expertise and joy in music making and his passionate belief in the right of young people to access quality music education.
With support from PHF, David set up Musical Futures in 2003 to find new and imaginative ways of engaging young people in meaningful and sustainable music activities. More than 20 years on, Musical Futures continues to support teachers with teaching music in a way that helps them to engage and enthuse their students.
His work has inspired teachers worldwide to develop their music programmes and to share the joy of music with young people.
David was an inspiration for work in music education in the UK and internationally. He really made an impact and will be sorely missed.
David was awarded an Order of the British Empire for his services to education which extended far beyond music and Musical Futures.
We know he will be missed by many people whose lives he touched and we send our condolences to David’s family and friends.
