Blended approaches to teacher professional learning in the arts

Published: 23 September 2024

This report explores different types of blended approaches to teacher professional learning in the arts and looks at what works.

This study from Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the Chartered College of Teaching draws on learning from Round 4 of the Teacher Development Fund, which ran from 2021 to 2023. The Teacher Development Fund supports teachers to develop and deliver arts-based learning in the primary classroom. The Fund has professional learning at its heart. Through the programme, artist practitioners support teachers to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to bring the curriculum to life through the arts.

During the pandemic, the Fund pivoted to take a blended approach to professional learning. This study draws on what we learned from this experience. Catherine Sutton, our Head of Programme – Education, describes the Fund’s shift to blended learning and explains the context behind the report in this blog.
