Highlights of 2012

2012 was a momentous year for the UK. Here is a selection of key moments for the Foundation, its grantees, Special Initiatives and people, from the last 12 months.

January

Bing ‘Help Your Britain’ campaign recognises User Voice
User Voice, an organisation that works with ex-offenders to reduce crime, is to be showcased on Microsoft’s search engine Bing on Thursday 26 January.

Reclaim wins Philip Lawrence Award for a second time
Reclaim Project, which works with young people in Manchester, was awarded a second Philip Lawrence Award at the House of Commons on 25 January.

February

Our Museum initiative grantees announced
The beneficiaries of the new Arts programme Special Initiative, Our Museum, have been announced.

New London offices
Paul Hamlyn Foundation has moved to new premises on Leeke Street in the King’s Cross area of London.

March

Foundation increases funding for Visual Arts and Composers
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation Awards for Visual Arts and Composers are to be increased to £50,000 over three years.

Sorrell Foundation Saturday Club to receive government funding
The National Art & Design Saturday Club, a programme developed by the Sorrell Foundation with support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Arts programme, will receive government funding of £395,000 over three years.

Theatre Royal Stratford East receives Olivier award
Theatre Royal Stratford East has been awarded a Laurence Olivier award for its production of ‘Roadkill’.

Grantees of a new Special Initiative of the PHF Social Justice programme, in partnership with Unbound Philanthropy, have been announced.

Right Here report finds only half of young people comfortable talking to GPs about mental health
Right Here Brighton and Hove has released a new report finding that only 52 per cent of young people say they are comfortable speaking to their GP about emotional and mental health issues.

Digital Undoc development camp to devise online support for undocumented young people
Over 70 young migrants, migrant sector workers, web developers, designers and innovators will gather at the Paul Hamlyn Foundation offices in King’s Cross this weekend.

‘Paul Hamlyn: An Oral History’ published
Paul Hamlyn Foundation has published an audio documentary on the life of Paul Hamlyn (1926 – 2001) as told through a collection of interviews with close friends, family, colleagues and associates.

Musical Bridges featured in Ofsted good practice survey
An Ofsted survey into good practice in music education has praised the impact of partnership work at Humphry Davy School, in Cornwall, with PHF’s Musical Bridges initiative.

PHF featured in Australian showcase event on participatory arts
Speakers from Paul Hamlyn Foundation contributed to an event on participatory arts projects at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.

Young People’s Shakespeare production of King Lear on tour in schools and theatres
The Royal Shakespeare Company’s new production of King Lear for young people has begun touring in schools and theatres across the UK.

October

Paul Hamlyn Foundation gives £5m endowment to Roundhouse
As part of its 25th anniversary, the Foundation has given a £5 million endowment to the Roundhouse, to support the work of the Roundhouse Studios

PHF awards emergency grant to help victims of communal violence in Assam
The PHF India programme has awarded an emergency grant to Northeast Research and Social Work Networking (NERSWN) to respond to communal violence in parts of Assam in July this year.

Language Futures shares approach at conference in Cambridgeshire
Language Futures, an innovative language learning programme that began life as part of a PHF Special Initiative, hosted its first conference in Cambridgeshire on 25 October 2012.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation announces anniversary gift of £1m to Jaipur Foot, India
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation has announced an endowment gift of £1m to the ‘Jaipur Foot’, an organisation which provides prosthetic limbs to people suffering from loco-motor disabilities in India and across more than 15 other developing countries.

£5m national partnership for arts for young people announced
