Reclaim wins Philip Lawrence Award for a second time

Reclaim Project, which works with young people in Manchester, was awarded a second Philip Lawrence Award at the House of Commons on 25 January.

The project engages with vulnerable young people from disadvantaged communities, in order to provide positive leadership opportunities and challenge negative labels given to young people in society. It helps participants to develop self-confidence, offers advice and supports them on their journey to adulthood by providing them with a voice in their community.

The Philip Lawrence awards were set up in memory of the head teacher murdered outside his school in 1995. They aim to reward young people aged 11-20 who contribute to a safer community and improve the lives of others. The first Reclaim won the Philip Lawrence Award in 2008, after being recognised for delivering innovative ways to help young people across Manchester.

In 2010/11, Reclaim received a grant of £150,000 over 18 months from the PHF Social Justice programme. It began life as an initiative of Urbis Learning, which PHF supported with funding of £49,800 in 2008/09.
