‘Voice of a generation’ video released

British Future has released a video with highlights from the ‘Voice of a generation’ tour, undertaken by young journalist Helen Whitehouse to raise the profile of young people’s voices ahead of the general election.

Helen, a 19-year-old journalism trainee from Barnsley, travelled to marginal constituencies across the country in February and March, writing regular pieces in The Daily Mirror. The tour was the culmmination of a year-long project by British Future, in partnership with the national paper, and supported with funding of £37,000 from the PHF Social Justice programme.

PHF Head of Social Justice Rob Bell said: “We are delighted to work with British Future and the Mirror to make sure that the real voices of young people are heard by political parties in the run up to the general election. The approach we are supporting recognises that amongst young people there is enormous diversity and difference of views and opinion. Helen will capture and share this, and – we hope – challenge perceptions of young people as being disinterested in politics and social issues.”

The tour ended with an event in Parliament on 24 March where young people spoke directly with MPs.

Helen’s pieces can be read on The Mirror’s website.
