Introducing ArtWorks Alliance

Paul Hamlyn Foundation is delighted to acknowledge the setting up of a new body for participatory arts: ArtWorks Alliance. This new consortium is the UK umbrella for organisations with strategic or developmental interests in any branch of participatory arts, including community arts, socially-engaged arts, voluntary arts, and arts in education and learning. Membership covers all artforms, geographic areas, ways of working, and purposes of the work.

The ArtWorks Alliance emerged from one of the Foundation’s major programmes, ArtWorks: Developing Practice in Participatory Settings, a five-year action research initiative to support the continuing professional development of artists working in participatory settings, with funding and support from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Creativity, Culture & Education (supported by Arts Council England) and the Cultural Leadership Programme.

Régis Cochefert, Head of Arts at the Paul Hamlyn Foundation says: “It is wonderful for the arts sector at large that ArtWorks Alliance has come together and will take on the recommendations and call for action that emerged from our initiative. We look forward to supporting this new strategic umbrella body.”
