Act for Change Fund awards grants totalling £2.1 million to 24 youth organisations across the UK
Twenty-four organisations working with young people who are taking action to challenge social injustice have received grants totalling £2,134,000 through Act for Change Fund, a £3.6 million partnership for organisations supporting young people working for change.
A joint initiative between Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, matched by the #iwill Fund, Act for Change Fund promotes the potential of young people with experience of disadvantage to devise and develop activities and programmes to shape the world around them.
Grants have been made to 24 organisations across the UK, providing resources for young people to challenge social injustice, find ways of overcoming inequality and give voice to issues they are experiencing.
Examples include RECLAIM in Manchester, who support and amplify the voices of young people from a working class background; Leonard Cheshire who campaign to tackle discrimination against young disabled people; Voice of Young People in Care (VOYPIC) in Northern Ireland, who are tackling the stigma of young people in care; and Irise International in Sheffield, who campaign to end period poverty. Liv Francis-Cornibert, a youth activist and member of the Act for Change Fund decision-making panel said: “We’re excited to be making our second round of grants, in which we’re seeing youth-led initiatives centring on personal experience, skills and talents to tackle injustices. It’s going to be great to see these projects take shape, forming a diverse group of social, cultural and political leaders for the future.”
The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport are each investing £20 million seed funding to create the #iwill Fund. Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation are acting as match funders and awarding grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund.
