New Year’s Honours list

This year’s New Year’s Honours list included recognition for a former Social Justice advisor and a current grantee.

Rob Berkeley, formerly of the Runnymede Trust and now Director of Policy and Communications for Locality, received an MBE for services to Equality. Locality is a charity for social action in communities and continues Rob’s long working history of community action.

Mark Johnson, founder and CEO of PHF grantee User Voice, was recognised for services to Vulnerable People with an MBE. User Voice was set up in 2009 and has been supported by the Foundation since 2010 for work including the development of its Excluded Youth project. User Voice operates on the principle that only by listening to ex-offenders can rehabilitation service providers develop effective policies to break the cycle of re-offending.

There was also an award for David Emerson, Chief Executive of the Association of Charitable Foundations, who was recognised for services to Philanthropy and Charitable Giving with a CBE.

As with previous announcements, this year’s honours list saw strong representation from charities and community groups, recognising the vital contribution they make to society.
