Total Breakthrough Fund support: £254,000

Carrie and Natalie were Joint Artistic Directors of the Gate Theatre when they got their Breakthrough grant in 2010. They proposed ideas for a new platform for the Gate’s work beyond its small theatre in Notting Hill in London, called The Gate Elsewhere. New producing posts were created to allow the Gate team to explore the potential for new co-producing relationships, tours and platforms for Gate productions.

The Gate Outdoors season was produced in Kensington and Chelsea in summer 2011, with works appearing across the country, as Roger Bernat;s DOMINI PUBLIK also took place at Watch this Space at the NT and at Northern Stage, Lowry Salford and Milton Keynes. The grant also supported the research and development of a number of new artist commissions and production ideas for Carrie and Natalie themselves. Carrie and Natalie left the Gate in 2012, and the grant concluded at this point. Carrie is now Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre, and Natalie is Genesis Fellow/Associate Director at the Young Vic Theatre.
